Melnick-MacDonald Designs was founded by
Chris Melnick-MacDonald, a designer specializing in the raw natural beauty of both silver and copper. Utilizing materials such as gemstones and pearls, Chris' designs are a combination of traditional elegance and modern day flair. Inspired by the unique shapes he sees in the natural world, he creates simple, yet beautiful pieces that are perfect for both everyday and special occasions. Melnick-MacDonald Designs is anything but ordinary. Chris aspires to ensure that every piece is as one-of-a-kind as the person wearing it.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Chris was influenced by the natural beauty of his home island. Coming from an artistic and crafty family, he has always had a passion for the arts. From a young age, he learned the basics of jewelry design from a teacher who encouraged him to broaden his artistic horizons and to develop his imagination. After graduating from high school in Sydney, Chris moved to Toronto to attend the University of Toronto to pursue a degree in Archaeology, another one of his passions. Even though jewelry design was not a large part of his studies at the University of Toronto, he continued to learn from the study of different cultures and ancient techniques.
After graduating from university, Chris enlisted in the Canadian Forces, and is currently posted to Ottawa, Ontario. He has fallen in love with Ottawa, with its big city feel, but small town charm and continues to be inspired by the natural beauty that Ottawa and its surrounding area has to offer. Chris' passion for jewelry is alive and well and is clearly reflected in the Melnick-MacDonald Designs Collection.
